The word “Pookalam” is an amalgamation of the terms “poove” and “kalam” while poove means flowers and kalam stands for colours. Onam is one of the biggest festival celebrated in our country, in Kerala. The celebration is held in the month of Chingam (August-September) and continues for 10 days. It stands out as a sign of secularism. Pookalam symbolizes the spirit of unity and team work as all the members of the family gather to get it done. Numerous kinds of flowers are used to create a beautiful Pookalam. It is the harvest festival of Kerala.
A special assembly was conducted by the students of STD III on 28th August to remember the harvest festival ‘Onam’ it started with a prayer, followed by a speech and finally a dance performance by the girls.
Thus, the students of Junior school took active part in decorating different design and patterns with numerous kinds of flowers. They were excited to get flowers on their own and worked together with a team spirit to complete the colorful Pookalam. It was a vibrant celebration and a joyful moment.
