St. Mary’s Public School organized an educational field trip for the students of STD VIII to the Krishi Mela (Farmer’s Market) hosted by the University of Agricultural Sciences, Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra (GKVK) on 17 November 2023. The event was a collaboration between local nurseries, environmental organizations, and farmers from Karnataka. The market featured a diverse range of stalls showcasing everything from seeds and saplings to insects and rodents.
The market aimed to educate students on the importance of cultivation and ecology. It featured aesthetically pleasing ornamental plants and demonstrations of modern agricultural machinery, products, and fertilizers. Students also had the opportunity to learn about the process of sericulture and the stages of a silkworm’s transformation, as well as the procedure of silk-making.
The Krishi Mela was not only a vital platform for fostering innovation, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration in the field of agriculture, but it also encouraged students to incorporate greenery into their homes. The field trip provided students with a coup d’œil into the vast world of agriculture and the importance of sustainable farming practices.
