“A good man regards the root; he fixes the root, and ail else flows out of it. The root is filial piety; the fruit brotherly love.” ~ Confucius
Filial Piety/ Friendship Day was celebrated on 7thAugust.This day is a chance to slow down for a moment and remember time spent with loved ones, to take a moment to be grateful for the blessings people have now and to renew optimism for what the future may hold. Filial Piety is inspired by Confucian thought and is a day for gratitude, respect, reverence, and love for our elders.
Students of class VIIbegan the assembly with a welcome by the student emcee; a prayer, Bible reading, and News reporting of the day’s headlines. This was followed by a solo singing performance and a play that showcased the importance of respecting, showing gratitude and spending time with loved ones. A rousing speech in Kannada was delivered by a teacher. The Principal of St. Mary’s Public School illuminated the audience with a speech on the necessity of celebrating Filial Piety.
The day was marked with an oath taken by all students to foster respect, love, and gratitude henceforth and always for their elders.
