On 28th February 2025, a Queer Sensitization session was arranged by the Vice Principal for the students of Class 6 and 7 at the AV Room, Venkatappa Layout Campus. The session, aimed at fostering a deeper understanding and empathy towards the queer community, was conducted by Ms. Sonali & Ms. Pooja Chettri grom Pride Circle, who was accompanied by Pooja. The session provided an engaging and informative platform for students to learn about the diverse spectrum of gender identities and sexual orientations, breaking stereotypes and encouraging inclusivity.
To ensure the students were not only informed but also engaged, Ms. Sonali Dutta, incorporated a variety of fun and thought-provoking games and activities. The session began with an activity where students were asked to place themselves on an identity spectrum. This activity encouraged students to reflect on the diversity of human identities, both in terms of gender and sexuality.
A fun and interactive quiz about the LGBTQIA+ community and queer terminology followed. Students answered multiple-choice questions in teams, where they learned about the history, significance, and key issues affecting the queer community. This activity allowed the students to test their knowledge and encouraged them to ask questions if they were unsure of anything.
At the end of the session, the students expressed their appreciation for the engaging and educational experience. Many of them stated that they now had a better understanding of queer identities and would be more respectful towards people of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. The students thanked Sonali and Pooja for the interactive session and for helping them understand the importance of creating a supportive environment for all individuals, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation.
