On September 15, 2024, the Karnataka state government had organized a human chain event at Manekshaw parade ground, which aimed at promoting environmental awareness and fostering community solidarity. The event saw the participation of more than 800 students, along with teachers, parents, and school students. The human chain was a symbolic gesture to highlight the collective effort required to address environmental issues and encourage community involvement.
The primary objectives of the human chain where Karnataka government on Sunday marked the ‘International Day of Democracy’ by forming a ‘historic’ 2,500-km-long human chain across the state, was to form a symbol of equality, unity, fraternity, and participative governance, to foster a sense of unity and collective responsibility within the community and to provide a practical and engaging learning experience for students outside the classroom.
The human chain began to take shape at 09:00 AM. Students, dressed in their regular school uniform, assembled at designated spots around Manekshaw parade ground. At precisely 09:58 AM, the participants joined hands, creating a continuous chain stretching approximately 2.5 kilometres around the ground’s main pathways. The human chain remained intact for one hour, during which participants held placards with messages about formation of integrity. The human chain fostered a strong sense of community, with positive feedback from attendees about the collaborative spirit and collective effort.
Many students and community members expressed their enthusiasm and satisfaction with the event. Traffic police and student organizers noted that the event achieved its objectives and provided valuable lessons in teamwork and public engagement. The event was praised for its organization and positive impact on the community.
