On 6th September 2024, St. Mary’s Public School hosted a Taekwondo demonstration aimed at promoting physical fitness, discipline, and cultural appreciation among students of Class III to VIII. The event was organized by the school’s Physical Education department in collaboration with the Taekwondo academy, International Taekwondo Federation. The demonstration attracted students and faculty showcasing the art and discipline of Taekwondo.
The primary objectives of the demonstration were to introduce students to the principles of Taekwondo, foster an interest in martial arts and physical fitness, highlight the importance of discipline, respect, and perseverance. The event commenced at 01:30 pm with an opening speech by Mr. Pradeep J, president of the ITF Academy, Bengaluru who emphasized the benefits of martial arts in developing both physical and mental strength.
The demonstration proceeded with the warmup session led by Pradeep J and his team, participants engaged in stretching and basic drills to prepare for the demonstration. The second performance was Hyung presentation where Advanced students showcased traditional Taekwondo forms, illustrating the art’s technical precision and fluidity. The audience was captivated by the synchronized movements. The next was breaking techniques- A thrilling segment where instructors demonstrated breaking techniques using boards. This segment highlighted the power and control required in Taekwondo. At the end, the instructors provided a brief overview of practical self-defence techniques, empowering students with knowledge on personal safety.
The demonstration received positive feedback from students and faculty alike. Many expressed interests in joining the after-school programme – coach post, citing the event’s engaging nature and the skills showcased by the practitioners. Teachers noted a heightened awareness of the benefits of martial arts for personal development and discipline.
The Taekwondo demonstration, achieved its objectives of promoting martial arts and encouraging students to embrace physical fitness. The event fostered a sense of community and respect among attendees, inspiring many to explore the world of Taekwondo further.
